"Temperance Cultures: Alcohol as a Problem in Nordic and English-Speaking Cultures" in Griffith Edwards, Malcom Lader, D. Colin Drummon (ed) The Nature of Alcohol and Drug-Related Problems. New York: Oxford University Press,1992 pp.16-36
This chapter makes a large cultural argument about the diffusion of anti-alcohol movements and ideologies. It was published in a prestigious but poorly distributed book series, and except for a small number of alcohol researchers it has not been well known.
I think this is one of the more important pieces I've published about drugs and society. I hope that putting it here helps it to find an even slightly larger audience.
