AMSTERDAM WINDOW
Like laughing children loosed on a playground, cackling white gulls swoop and swirl etching their frenzied air ballet on the canvas of the canal -- houseboats drift still, brownstones lean exquisite in their decrepitude, terra cotta-tile rooves a kaleidoscope through bare branches bejeweled with dangling drops of drizzle under winter's grey canopy -- as the choreographer next door scatters his stale bread on the water.
